Much of the continental crust that is now Southern California formed beneath the Pacific Ocean. This region assembled over a billion years ago from older materials recycled through the earth’s crust and mantle, oceanic activities and volcanic and tectonic forces.
The Rock the Lens exhibit consist of geological (Rock) formations photographed along the Southern California coastline. These natural formations consist of unique patterns and vibrant natural colors formed from the conglomeration of different Geo types and sediments such as travertine, schist, limestone, volcanic ash, and ancient granites. These geological time markers took over a billion years to form into the beautiful natural art photographed in this exhibit.
These are digital one shot compositions taken close up with a telephoto lens to give the illusion of an abstract picture.
